Summary

"The Wise Mamma Goose" by Charlotte B. Herr is a story about a mother goose who is worried about her goslings and all the other young birds in the barnyard. This wise mother sees that baby chicks are vanishing at night and thinks a fox is to blame. Nobody else seems as concerned, so Mamma Goose decides to hide her own babies in an old doghouse that used to belong to Fido, who is missing. Eventually, a rooster helps Mamma Goose convince the entire barnyard to hide in the doghouse. Due to her courage and wisdom, and with the help of the other barnyard animals, the barnyard becomes safe, and Fido returns home.
