Summary

"The Dark" by Leonid Andreyev is a story about Alexis, a young revolutionary, deep in political conflict and sadness. Ready to commit an act of terror, Alexis battles with his own thoughts in a gloomy setting. The story starts with Alexis being very tired and in danger from the police. Looking for rest before his big plan, he goes to a brothel, a place he doesn't know. There he meets Liuba, a young prostitute, who makes him feel pity and confusion. Both Alexis and Liuba want to understand each other and connect, even though they are both sad. This makes the reader think about what it means to be human, to sacrifice, and the confusion between right and wrong.
