Summary

"The Incredible Invasion" by George O. Smith is a science fiction tale from the 1940s that takes place in a world grappling with post-World War II tensions. It looks at the frightening idea of using germs as weapons to take over land without fighting in the usual way. The story follows Jim Franklen, who works for the United Nations Weapon Security Council. He looks into the growing power of the Central Power and its leader, Commissario Hohmann. Franklen finds out that Hohmann is using health problems to make countries weak so they can be taken over without a war. Franklen struggles with whether it is right to fight what looks like kindness but is really aggression, and if it's okay to use atomic bombs when the world is already nervous. It makes you think about what war could be like in the future, where battles might be fought in sneaky ways.
