Summary

"The Duchess of Padua" by Oscar Wilde is a play set in the 1500s that tells a tale of revenge and love. Guido Ferranti learns a shocking secret about his family: he is the son of Duke Lorenzo, who was betrayed and murdered and now Guido burns for revenge. Count Moranzone appears, he fuels Guido's desire for vengeance. Guido is torn between his need for revenge and his other emotions, as the characters create a network of enemies and allies as the plot unfolds.

About the Author

Oscar Fingal O'Fflahertie Wills Wilde was an Irish poet and playwright. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of the most popular playwrights in London in the early 1890s. He is best remembered for his epigrams and plays, his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, and his criminal conviction for gross indecency for homosexual acts.
