"Adrienne Lecouvreur" by Eugène Scribe is a dramatic play set in early 18th century France that follows the life of Adrienne Lecouvreur, a famous actress caught in a web of love and rivalry. The story explores Adrienne's passionate yet troubled relationship with Maurice de Saxe, complicated by the jealousy of the Duchesse de Bouillon. The play uses the backdrop of the French stage to examine themes of ambition, recognition, and the intense personal and professional struggles between Adrienne and her competitor, Mlle. Duclos, as revealed from conversations held within the elegant home of the Princesse de Bouillon.
