Guy Livingstone; or, 'Thorough'

"Guy Livingstone; or, 'Thorough' by George A. Lawrence is a story set in the 1800's about a young man named Guy Livingstone who enters a new school and has to overcome the trials and tribulations of school life, including friendships, bulling, and the challenges of growing up, as told through the eyes of a storyteller. The opening shows the difficult first days at a large, unfamiliar school, shining a light on the emotional problems and social interactions between the boys. Students can see themselves in the main character, who feels alone and picked on, until defended by Guy Livingstone, who earns popularity and respect among the younger students. An additional character is introduced, Joseph Baines, who wants to gain revenge on former bullies using his newfound power. As Guy Livingstone starts to grow as a likeable and guarding character, it builds the base for exploring his characteristics, relationships, and the adventures lying ahead. The novel introduces a story full of deep friendships, rivalries, and moral questions faced during youth.
