Summary

"The New Boy at Hilltop, and Other Stories" by Ralph Henry Barbour is a series of tales about young boys in a boarding school, especially telling the tale of Kenneth Garwood as he deals with new friendships and school challenges. Kenneth comes to Hilltop School and is not impressed by his roommate, Joseph Brewster, nor his instructor, Mr. Whipple. Though, as other students arrive and Kenneth has a fight with Brewster, his first thoughts begin to change as he finds a new sense of friendship. This start shows Kenneth growing up, learning the school ways, and taking part in sports, with themes of friendship and rivalry, and a fun and energetic feeling of young adventures.
