Right Guard Grant

"Right Guard Grant" by Ralph Henry Barbour is a story about a boy named Leonard Grant, who is the new kid at Alton Academy and really wants to be on the football team. He has to figure out how to make friends and deal with school life while trying to reach his goal. A big part of the story is how hard he works to get good at football and how he competes with another student, Gordon Renneker, who is already a great player. When the book starts, we see what Alton Academy is like through Leonard's eyes as he gets to know the school and the people there, like Coach Cade and his friend Slim Staples. As he gets used to his new school, Leonard learns how important football is to the school and how tough it will be for him to get on the team, which makes him even more determined to succeed. Overall, the story is about working together, growing as a person, and chasing your dreams, both in sports and in life.
