"The Rajah's Heir" by Charlotte Despard is a story set in the late 1800s about a young man named Tom Gregory from England who finds out he's actually next in line to be the Rajah of Gumilcund, an Indian kingdom. The book starts with the old Rajah on his deathbed, hoping his dedicated servant, Chunder Singh, will find Tom, who doesn't know anything about his royal background. As Tom and his mom figure out what this all means, Tom feels pulled in different directions, trying to balance his normal life with the huge responsibility of his newfound heritage, leading to a story that's all about figuring out who you are and what you owe to others and the cultural differences between England and India.
