Summary

"Anti-Slavery Poems" by John Greenleaf Whittier is a collection that highlights the author's fervor as a voice against slavery in the early 1800s. Through verse, Whittier shines a light on the quest for freedom, human experiences, and the ethical battles fought by those opposing slavery. The book starts with a dedication to William Lloyd Garrison, celebrating his fight against oppression and setting a tone of unity for those standing against slavery’s cruelty. Poems then bring to life the suffering of the enslaved, such as a mother's sorrowful goodbye to her daughters, stirring emotions and pushing readers to act for justice during a time of widespread inequality.
