Summary

They end up crashing on a strange, unknown island and need to use their smarts and skills to live in the wild. The story starts with a bang, throwing the characters into a dangerous situation as their balloon is tossed around by the hurricane. They have to throw out all their stuff to try and stay alive, leading to a risky crash landing. Cyrus Smith is shown to be a strong leader, along with his faithful servant Neb, the talented sailor Pencroff, reporter Gideon Spilett, and young Herbert Brown. Each person has their own special talents that will help them face the challenges of surviving and figuring out the island's secrets and as they handle their scary situation the tone showcases the power of friendship.

About the Author

Jules Gabriel Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. His collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel led to the creation of the Voyages extraordinaires, a series of bestselling adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1872). His novels, always well-researched according to the scientific knowledge then available, are generally set in the second half of the 19th century, taking into account the technological advances of the time.
