Summary

"Abandoned" by Jules Verne is an adventure story about a group of people stranded on Lincoln Island after a balloon crash. Led by Cyrus Harding, the strong-willed group, including Neb, Herbert, and Pencroft, they struggle to survive their new isolated home. They uncover hints of prior inhabitants and the island holds secrets. Starting seven months after the crash, the discovery of a mysterious bullet leads them to think about the possibility of other people on the island, and they begin building a canoe to solve this mystery. As they plan their trip, the unexplained vanishing of a turtle escalates the situation, raising concerns about the dangers of a hidden past. The tone of the story is one of suspense and wonder as the group gets ready to explore the secrets.

About the Author

Jules Gabriel Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. His collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel led to the creation of the Voyages extraordinaires, a series of bestselling adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1872). His novels, always well-researched according to the scientific knowledge then available, are generally set in the second half of the 19th century, taking into account the technological advances of the time.
