Summary

"R.E.H." by R. H. Barlow is a heartfelt poem from the 1930s, celebrating the life of Robert E. Howard, the mind behind Conan the Barbarian. The poem explores the ideas of death and legendary courage through visions of Howard's creation. Barlow paints a picture of Conan as a warrior who has passed away, a representation of might and bravery now still under the night sky. This imagery highlights the sadness of Conan's demise, recalling his passion for combat and the peace that comes after. Barlow creates a feeling of longing as he shows Conan's change from a living being to a myth, implying that even though wars may end, the tales of heroes like him live on in our imaginations and stories.
