Summary

"The Poor Little Rich Girl" by Eleanor Gates is a story about a young, wealthy girl named Gwendolyn, who feels sad, despite her rich life, because she longs for real happiness and freedom. As the story begins, on her seventh birthday, Gwendolyn feels let down because she hasn't grown taller. This makes her feel even more unhappy. She sees that her governess and nursemaid don't really care about her, and she wishes she could be more independent and have more control over her own life. Even though she has a lot of money, she feels all alone and like she is missing something important.
