Summary

"Whirlpools: A Novel of Modern Poland" by Henryk Sienkiewicz is a story set in Poland, exploring how people connect and deal with family issues amidst a changing society. It mainly circles around Ladislaus Krzycki, a young man set to inherit a fortune, and his buddy Gronski, as they spend time at the Jastrzeb manor. Early on, Gronski arrives to find Ladislaus getting ready for a funeral, and their chats show the importance of family and what’s expected of them in their world. They talk about losing loved ones and what that means for those left behind. The book hints at possible troubles related to love, what people inherit, and who they are, especially with new characters like Miss Anney and Marynia coming into play. It looks like the book will dig into their tangled lives as big shifts happen in society.
