"The Bent Twig" by Dorothy Canfield Fisher is a tale set in the early 1900s about Sylvia Marshall, a girl raised in a somewhat unusual family, learning about life and her place in it. We see Sylvia's happy early years full of playing with her brothers and sisters, and the love between her mom and dad. When Sylvia starts to think about what her Aunt Victoria thinks about her and her family, she starts to figure out who she is. It shows her family's busy life of her dad's school work, her mom's relaxed attitude, and the people always visiting their house. It shows what life was like back then, and that Sylvia will have to deal with as she grows up and finds out where she belongs.
