Summary

"The Freeman, and Other Poems" by Ellen Anderson Gholson Glasgow is a collection of verses from the start of the 1900s that looks closely at what it means to be free, the ups and downs of being human, and big questions about life. Glasgow uses strong images and deep feelings to show how complicated life can be. The different poems talk about things like feeling hopeless, love, what is fair, and trying to find what's true. In "The Freeman," readers will find a strong look at how despair can set you free but also weigh you down. In "A Prayer" and "A Battle Cry," Glasgow writes about wanting to be brave and how people can bounce back when things get tough. Other poems look at death and what it means to be human after we die, using spooky pictures to make readers feel things strongly. Glasgow's beautiful words and meaningful comparisons make a collection that touches readers and makes them think hard about the good times and bad times in life.
