Summary

"Three Stories & Ten Poems" by Ernest Hemingway is a compilation that presents the author's early explorations of life through minimalist prose and observant poetry. The stories in the collection focus on the complexities of human relationships and the impact of personal and societal struggles where "Up In Michigan" tells of a young woman's troubling experience with a blacksmith, while "Out of Season" looks at the uncomfortable relationship between a couple and a drunken man on a fishing trip. "My Old Man" shows the bond between a boy and his jockey father ending in a tragedy at a racetrack. Supplementing these stories, the included poems echo themes of disillusionment and loss, reflecting on the emotional struggles of the characters and the author's observations on the harsh realities of the world.

About the Author

Ernest Miller Hemingway was an American novelist, short-story writer and journalist. Known for an economical, understated style that influenced later 20th-century writers, he has been romanticized for his adventurous lifestyle and outspoken, blunt public image. Some of his seven novels, six short-story collections and two non-fiction works have become classics of American literature, and he was awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize in Literature.
