Summary

"In Desert and Wilderness" by Henryk Sienkiewicz is a tale that plunges two young souls, Stas Tarkowski and Nell Rawlinson, into a whirlwind of adventure amidst the Mahdi uprising in early 20th-century Egypt. As the Mahdi's influence casts a shadow over their lives in Port Said, the children's initial innocence gives way to a stark awareness of the looming violence. Their world is further disrupted by the arrest of Fatma, the overseer's wife. The narrative then sets the stage for their dramatic kidnapping by individuals linked to the Mahdi, an event that catapults them into a hazardous trek across the African landscape. Throughout their journey, themes of friendship, courage, and the harsh realities of growing up come to the forefront, as they face unimaginable challenges that test the boundaries of their endurance.
