Summary

"Hania" by Henryk Sienkiewicz is a story from the late 1800s that follows Hania, a young woman under the guardianship of Henri after her grandfather, Mikolai, passes away. The narrative explores love, duty, and how life changes, all within the world of Polish nobles and their complicated family responsibilities. The book starts with Mikolai, an old servant who the narrator remembers fondly from childhood, establishing him as a caring but strict figure and his importance to the narrator's life. After Mikolai dies, both the narrator and Hania are left to figure out their new relationship as guardian and ward and begin a shared journey full of sorrow and developing affection, laying the foundation for an exploration of deep feelings connected to love and responsibility.
