Combatman

"Combatman" by John Massie Davis is a science fiction story that unfolds during a mission to colonize a far-off planet. Aboard a spacecraft, Computerman, after waking from suspended animation, clashes with Combatman, a strong-willed figure intent on leading the expedition. As the crew nears their destination, doubts about hostile life forms surface, stirring up suspense and conflict. The original mission is eventually called off because of a threat involving the inhabitants of the foreign planet. This leads to the startling disclosure of Combatman’s past when he announces that the planet is in fact Earth. The story ends when Computerman now better understands the complexities of who people are because of this discovery.
