Summary

"The Green Satin Gown" by Laura Elizabeth Howe Richards is a story set in the early 1900s about a young girl who learns about herself and fitting in through her friendship with an important woman, Madam Le Baron. The girl is thrilled when she gets invited to Madam Le Baron's grand house; however, she feels uneasy trying to meet expectations, something symbolized by a green satin dress. During this experience, the girl is exposed to the pressures surrounding how people look to others. As she gets ready for a party, she thinks about what it means to be young and wanting to be accepted, as well as the value of the advice and support from family and friends.
