Summary

"An Isle in the Water" by Katharine Tynan is a story that takes place in a coastal Irish town, where love and loss are everyday struggles for the characters. The book starts by showing the tricky situation between a man who lost his first wife, his new wife, and memories of the first wife named Alison. While the second wife has worked hard to take over and erase Alison, the loyal dog who loved Alison stays as reminder, always there. The novel teases with mystery and local stories of the supernatural, all while the family relationships change, hinting at buried emotions and hidden secrets.

About the Author

Katharine Tynan was an Irish writer, known mainly for her novels and poetry. After her marriage in 1893 to the Trinity College scholar, writer and barrister Henry Albert Hinkson (1865–1919) she usually wrote under the name Katharine Tynan Hinkson, or variations thereof. Tynan's younger sister Nora Tynan O'Mahony was also a poet and one of her three children, Pamela Hinkson (1900–1982), was also known as a writer. The Katharine Tynan Road in Belgard, Tallaght is named after her.
