Summary

"The Story of Bawn" by Katharine Tynan is a novel that paints a portrait of young Bawn Devereux, who lives with her grandparents, Lord and Lady St. Leger, at Aghadoe Abbey during the beginning of the 20th century. Growing up in isolation, Bawn's sheltered life leads her to ponder innocence, the expectations of society, and the deep secrets of her family's past. Her relationships, most notably with her cousin Theobald and the mysterious Richard Dawson, become central to her journey. From Bawn's perspective, the story unveils the enchantment of her ancestral home, shadowed by the past disappearance of her Uncle Luke. Superstition and old beliefs linger as Bawn imagines the ghosts that are believed to roam her home. As the story moves forward, her connection grows with more people in the nearby land, and with new people like Richard Dawson who enter her life, she is bound to face changes and start a new life.
