Summary

"Hidden Creek" by Katharine Newlin Burt is a story set in the early 1900's. It follows Sheila Arundel, a young woman who loses her father, a painter who struggled to make a living. Now alone and with no money, Sheila is given hope through a hotel owner, Sylvester Hudson who offers her a job in a small western town named Millings. At first, Sheila is very sad about her father's death and worried about how she will survive without him. Sylvester sees that she needs help and gives her a chance to leave her old life behind. When Sheila goes to Millings, she feels scared and doesn't know if she'll be able to fit in, and the beginning of the story sets up Sheila's journey about loss, being strong, and trying to find where she belongs as she starts her new life.
