Summary

"The Hurricane Hunters" by Ivan Ray Tannehill is a mid-20th century book about the risky job of flying into hurricanes. It looks at the brave guys who flew planes right into the middle of huge storms. The book probably talks about how we started tracking storms in the first place, how scary these storms can be, and how we got better at understanding and guessing where hurricanes will go. The story starts with a young radio operator, super nervous about flying into his first hurricane; as he gets on the plane with experienced pros, his thoughts and fears jump off the page just as people on the ground start getting ready for the storm to hit. The book shows how crucial and dangerous these flights were for keeping people safe.
