Summary

"Catherine Herself" by James Hilton is a coming-of-age story about Catherine Weston, a girl experiencing childhood and growing into a young woman. The story presents her thoughts about her family life, creating a picture of suburban life and its expectations during the early 1900s. Catherine observes her parents and reflects on her everyday life in great detail; her father is a school teacher. The book shows her developing from a thoughtful child into an adolescent who wants independence, which suggests she might face her father's expectations in the future.
