Summary

"The Golden Sayings of Epictetus" by Epictetus is a philosophical exploration presenting a compilation of ethical principles and thoughtful insights from the Stoic philosopher Epictetus, probably from the first century AD. The work underlines the value of ethics, self-control, and grasping one's place in the vast universe, underlining living in harmony with nature and divine logic. Readers are immediately drawn into reflections on thankfulness to the divine and the vital role of understanding their reason for living from the beginning. Epictetus asks for praising God, stressing the knowledge and logic humanity has received, juxtaposing lives sidetracked by earthly pleasures with those centered on their purpose as thinking beings. The philosopher challenges readers to consider their bond with the divine and understand the significant duties they have as global citizens, starting a mood of soul-searching and pushing people to pursue knowledge and moral uprightness in their lives.
