"Chums in Dixie; or, The Strange Cruise of a Motorboat" by St. George Rathborne is an early 20th-century adventure tale about two young lads, Phil Lancing and Larry Densmore, who set out on a motorboat journey along a twisting river in Florida. The story is packed with outdoor escapades and local legends, especially those surrounding the enigmatic McGee family and their fearsome standing in the community. Phil and Larry leave their village and head into Florida's wild wetlands, however, a posse searching for a McGee family member quickly derails their journey. As they navigate the waterways, they discover Tony, a stowaway from this same McGee family, who is resolute, and joins them on their unusual adventure.
