"Julia The Apostate" by Josephine Daskam Bacon is a story about a woman named Miss Julia Trueman, who finds herself caught between the old ways she knows and the new ideas of the early 1900s, especially through her nieces, Carolyn and Elise. It shows how families can have different views on life. Aunt Julia, stuck in her traditional thinking, is very confused by the modern life around her and what her nieces do. When they try to show her their modern friends and ideas, like new books and art, Julia often disagrees with them. Things change when she meets her cousin, Lorando Bean, after a long time. They start a romance, which is very different from Julia's earlier struggles with who she is and modern society. In the end, Julia changes inside, accepting both her love for her country and her need for someone to be with, as she starts a new part of her life with Lorando.
