Summary

"The Group: A Farce" by Mercy Otis Warren is a comedic play from the time of the American Revolution that makes fun of people who supported the British. Set in Boston, it shows the bad behavior and selfishness of characters like judges and soldiers who are loyal to the crown. The story uses funny conversations and smart jokes to point out how these loyalists are going against the ideas of freedom and honesty. Warren's writing is a strong statement against unfair rule and a push for independence, using laughter to get people to think about the serious issues of the time. The two acts reveal scheming and betrayals that threatened the colonies' fight for self-governance, painting a picture of a society divided by loyalty and ambition.
