Summary

"The Scarecrow; or The Glass of Truth: A Tragedy of the Ludicrous" by Percy MacKaye is a play that explores the funny yet sad sides of who we think we are. Set in a blacksmith's workshop, the story kicks off with Goody Rickby crafting a scarecrow with help from Dickon, a playful, devil-like character. The play then raises questions about what is real and what is fake through witty jokes and deep thinking about what it means to be human, all while the scarecrow is being brought to life to guard a cornfield, but it hints at a journey that could change who he is.
