Summary

"A Hoosier Holiday" by Theodore Dreiser is a recount of the author's trip back to his home state of Indiana with his friend Franklin, an illustrator. The story is a personal reflection on Dreiser's childhood memories and experiences, and the landscape of Indiana. Dreiser describes his journey, which was inspired by Franklin's suggestion, to revisit his past. He shares stories from his youth in towns like Terre Haute and Warsaw, remembering both the difficulties and richness of his early life. The beginning of the book sets the stage for a thoughtful exploration of nostalgia and the challenge of returning to the places of one's past, seasoned with personal stories and observations about the changing American landscape.

About the Author

Theodore Herman Albert Dreiser was an American novelist and journalist of the naturalist school. His novels often featured main characters who succeeded at their objectives despite a lack of a firm moral code, and literary situations that more closely resemble studies of nature than tales of choice and agency. Dreiser's best known novels include Sister Carrie (1900) and An American Tragedy (1925).
