Summary

"The Old Flute-Player: A Romance of To-day" by Edward Marshall is a story set around a peculiar flute player, Herr Kreutzer, and his stunning daughter, Anna, who live a quiet existence in London while the father plays in a little orchestra. Their world is turned upside down when they choose to move to America, driven by a pressing need to run away from a shrouded danger, helped by the affection of their devoted servant M'riar, who loves Anna deeply. The story begins by introducing Kreutzer and Anna and their reclusive life, which grows suspicions about their history. The story shows Kreutzer's protective attitude toward Anna and gives clues about their difficult past. As they prepare for their trip to America, we meet M'riar, a dedicated young servant who thinks Anna is perfect and chooses to follow them. Their departure is very emotional, as M'riar's love for Anna makes her do anything, promising that their connection stays strong even in the face of their uncertain journey.
