Summary

"A Man: His Mark. A Romance" by W. C. Morrow is a story set in the late 1800s about a loner named Adrian Wilder living on Mt. Shasta, where he faces a strong winter storm. A major part of the story is about feeling alone, doing what's right, and how fragile people are, especially when Wilder gets mixed up in a terrible accident with a man and a woman trying to get away from the storm. Early in the story, Adrian sees the threatening winter storms get bigger while he thinks about how safe his stone hut is. He quickly starts worrying about other people living in the mountains, like his friend Dr. Malbone. Everything changes when a wagon gets caught in the storm and is destroyed by falling trees, forcing Wilder to deal with what happens because of the awful weather. He finds a woman, Laura Andros, alive in the wreckage, and he decides to take care of her, even though he doesn't feel like he's good enough. The story gets more exciting as he deals with the duty of helping her heal and also figures out the confusing parts of their new and surprising relationship.
