Summary

"Roughing It De Luxe" by Irvin S. Cobb is a funny travel story from the early 1900s. It tells about a train trip to the Grand Canyon, mixed with funny thoughts on the strange people traveling with the writer and the cool American Southwest. Cobb's clever humor and interesting way of writing give readers a fun story about what he sees, especially the silly parts of tourist travel at the time and the amazing sights along the way. The story starts with the author talking about how hard it is to describe the Grand Canyon, saying that most people can't. He shows us some interesting people on the train, like a smart doctor, a newly married couple, and a worried foot doctor, each making the trip more amusing. As they travel, Cobb hilariously shows their excitement, worries, and silly actions, all leading to when they finally see the Grand Canyon's amazing views. The start of the book sets the stage for a fun look at nature, travel, and the often silly ways people act when they're tourists
