Summary

"The Innocents Abroad" by Mark Twain is a lively account of American tourists traveling through Europe and the Holy Land in the 1800s, told with a mix of humor and sharp observations. The story follows a group of pilgrims on a steamship, showing the funny and sometimes clumsy side of early tourism, and also the impressive sights they encounter. From elaborate plans made before leaving to the seasickness that strikes many on board, Twain captures the anticipation and confusion of exploring new places. Characters like Mr. Blucher add to the comedy, as Twain cleverly makes fun of the group's mistakes while painting a bright picture of their journey on the sea.

About the Author

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known by the pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, and essayist. He also wrote A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1889) and Pudd'nhead Wilson (1894) and cowrote The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today (1873) with Charles Dudley Warner.
