Summary

"Leila or, the Siege of Granada, Book III" by Edward Bulwer Lytton Lytton is a historical fiction book set in the Victorian era, painting a picture of Moorish Spain's last stand through the eyes of Leila, a young Jewish woman struggling with love, religion, and finding herself amidst war. Shielded by Queen Isabel from religious persecution and a persistent prince, Leila finds refuge with Donna Inez, who encourages her to consider Christianity while honoring her heritage. Leila wrestles with her beliefs, sparking a journey of conversion and self-discovery that’s complicated by her father's betrayal. Leila’s personal journey mirrors larger themes of faith, identity, and the difficult history faced by Spanish Jews, all unfolding as King Boabdil prepares his forces for a desperate battle against the Christian army.
