Summary

"The Road to En-Dor" by E. H. Jones is a true story about two soldiers held as prisoners during World War I who hatch a wild plan to escape. Stuck in a Turkish prison camp with nothing but time, Lieutenant Jones and Lieutenant Hill decide to spice things up by pretending to be spiritualists, hosting séances and contacting spirits using homemade tools in hopes of making their time in captivity more bearable. At first, it's all fun and games as they entertain their fellow prisoners with strange rituals and messages from the "other side," starting with little success after exploring spiritualism as a way to pass the time. Jones receives a postcard, furthering his desire to return to his homeland. But as their act gets more convincing, they realize they can use it to deceive their captors, making them believe in their fake spiritual powers. This lets them gain special treatment and move closer to freedom, blending humor and danger as the two make friends and navigate the challenges of prison life during wartime.
