Summary

"Manners & Cvstoms of ye Englyshe" by Richard Doyle is a humorous observation of English society in the mid-1800s, told from the perspective of a narrator wanting to copy Mr. Pips, a historical recorder. Imagine Socrates coming back to life and seeing modern England; that is the idea that starts this trip using social events and daily shenanigans to poke fun at the strange parts of English culture, all while offering a funny look at the period's customs. The book opens with the narrator expressing that wish, and readers are then immersed in all sorts of places where all the fun and interesting things are going on, like parties and public festivals, to learn a little more about English characteristics.
