Summary

"Tarry thou till I come; or, Salathiel, the wandering Jew" by George Croly is a historical romance that tells the tale of Salathiel, an immortal Jew burdened with eternal wandering as punishment for his involvement in Christ's crucifixion. The gripping narrative kicks off with Salathiel plunged into despair right after he is sentenced to this solitary existence, as the story navigates broad themes of guilt and faith. Confronted with what his actions have wrought, he must face his part advocating for Jesus's crucifixion, suddenly aware of the dire consequences of his fanaticism. The story vividly describes the protagonist's turmoil, from fleeing a crowded Jerusalem to his solitude. The story's dramatic beginning explores morality, everlasting life's burden, and a quest for atonement throughout the story.
