Summary

** "The Revision Revised" by John William Burgon is a detailed critique of changes made to the Greek text and English translation of the New Testament. Composed of reprinted essays, the book attacks the new textual theories championed by scholars like Westcott and Hort, who sought to revise the accepted biblical texts. Burgon steps in as a defender of the traditional biblical text, countering what he views as errors in the revision process and standing by the accuracy of earlier translations. The tone of the book is rooted in Burgon’s disapproval of the Revisers' work, arguing their foundations are shaky and lacking historical support; his writing stems from a determination to safeguard the original scripture readings, presenting arguments previously made in his essays as he sets up his careful arguments. **
