Summary

"Captain Ted: A Boy's Adventures Among Hiding Slackers in the Great Georgia Swamp" by Louis Pendleton is an early 1900´s kids adventure, following Ted and Hubert as their search for the perfect Christmas tree steers them right into the vast Okefinokee Swamp. Far from a winter wonderland, they stumble into the secret world of men dodging the war, setting the stage for a story packed with bravery and hard choices. The book starts off showing the boys heading into the snowy Georgia woods to find that Christmas tree for the Holiday Season where things quickly go wrong and they find themselves trapped unexpectedly. The opening shows off just how different the boys are: Ted being brave and always ready for action, and Hubert, who is far more careful and scared. As they journey further into the swamp they learn of the draft-dodgers in hiding which creates moral problems during their adventure in a time of war.
