Summary

"Joseph Smith the Prophet-Teacher: A Discourse" by B. H. Roberts is a speech transcribed into a book from 1908, celebrating the birthday of Joseph Smith Jr.. Penned by a well-known Latter-day Saint leader, it highlights Joseph Smith's role as a prophet and teacher. It examines his teachings and how they differed from the common ideas of his time. The book suggests that Smith fixed some mistakes in religious ideas and gave new thoughts on life and morals, seeing him as an important person in both religion and American history, claiming he molded how people think about religion. The author uses stories and religious ideas to show Joseph Smith as a major prophet whose impact is still felt today.

About the Author

Roberts was denied a seat as a member of United States Congress because of his practice of polygamy.
