"The Dragon Slayers" by Frank Banta is a science fiction story set on a futuristic Venus, where the married couple, Pole and Bliss Kenton, hilariously harvest pretzins in the jungle. Facing perils, including snakes and a dragon, the Kentons struggle with survival while following bizarre rules and battling an environment that threatens their home and job. After a vacuum snake bites Bliss and a dragon torches their cabin, their Division Chief provides an inadequate fumigation bomb. In a daring move, the couple uses this bomb against the dragon, leading to a surprising outcome and a new, unexpected beginning born from humor and quick-thinking.
