Summary

"A New Robinson Crusoe" by W. L. Alden is a late 19th-century novel about Mike Flanagan, a young Irishman, who finds himself shipwrecked with the odd Mr. Crusoe, who insists he's related to the famous Robinson Crusoe. It's a funny take on the classic story of being stranded, and is about what it takes to survive, the bonds of friendship, and making fun of how weird people can be. It starts with Mike telling us about his time on the ship "H. G. Thompson" and how a big storm led to a shipwreck, leaving him to save Mr. Crusoe and wind up on a deserted island. They try to survive together, but Mr. Crusoe’s strange ideas and obsession with his grandfather’s story lead to lots of funny situations and clever conversations as they deal with island life.
