Summary

"From London to Land's End" by Daniel Defoe, is a journey through the landscapes and society of 18th-century England, captured through the author's observant eyes as he travels from London. The book starts by explaining why it's important to write down what he sees and experiences. As he moves, he carefully describes places such as Hampton Court and Windsor. Details about the land, historic places, and the way people live fill the pages, creating a clear image of England back then. Defoe's writing makes you think about both the beautiful countryside and the hard parts of how society was set up, encouraging us to think about how much things have changed since his time.

About the Author

Daniel Defoe was an English novelist, journalist, merchant, pamphleteer and spy. He is most famous for his novel Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719, which is claimed to be second only to the Bible in its number of translations. He has been seen as one of the earliest proponents of the English novel, and helped to popularise the form in Britain with others such as Aphra Behn and Samuel Richardson. Defoe wrote many political tracts, was often in trouble with the authorities, and spent a period in prison. Intellectuals and political leaders paid attention to his fresh ideas and sometimes consulted him.
