Summary

"Shakespeare's England" by William Winter is a historical journey through the British countryside and is a personal account of his travels across the ocean to the storied lands of England. The author presents eloquent descriptions of the landscape and shares his reflections on the solitude and awe he felt when entering a civilization as rich and storied as England, paying special attention to areas tied to William Shakespeare. Using the late 19th century English countryside as its canvas, the book captures the landscapes, landmarks, and character of what England meant to him. Throughout the book, Winter prepares readers for an emotional exploration that mixes personal insight with reverence for English history.
