Summary

"The Logic of Modern Physics" by P. W. (Percy Williams) Bridgman is a scientific exploration of the major changes happening in physics during the early 1900s. The book looks closely at the new ideas of relativity and quantum mechanics and how they challenge older, more traditional ways of thinking about the world. Bridgman wants to understand how our ideas about physics have grown and changed, especially after the creation of relativity and quantum theory, and what it means for ideas we thought we already understood, like space and time. He wants physicists to question fundamental ideas and to think about how our ideas match up with the experiments and observations we make, joining real-world findings with scientific theories.

About the Author

Percy Williams Bridgman was an American physicist who received the 1946 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the physics of high pressures. He also wrote extensively on the scientific method and on other aspects of the philosophy of science. The Bridgman effect, the Bridgman–Stockbarger technique, and the high-pressure mineral bridgmanite are named after him.
