The first poem, "The Fairies," pulls you into a secret world of tiny, magical creatures and also hints that they can be a bit naughty. The poems that follow build on ideas of excitement, friendship, and nature, making an upbeat, playful mood that inspires kids to use their imaginations and explore new ideas. The words flow in a beat, making it easy for kids to enjoy and grow to love reading poems.

About the Author

William Allingham was an Irish poet, diarist and editor. He wrote several volumes of lyric verse, and his poem "The Faeries" was much anthologised. But he is better known for his posthumously published Diary, in which he records his lively encounters with Tennyson, Carlyle and other writers and artists. His wife, Helen Allingham, was a well-known watercolourist and illustrator.
